Brazilian Perfumery & Beauty | Paris, France

Granado Paris represents the international presence of one of Brazil’s most historic beauty and perfumery companies. Founded in Rio de Janeiro in 1870, Granado established its first international concept store at 21 Rue Bonaparte, in Saint-Germain-des-Prés, transforming more than a century of Brazilian pharmaceutical, botanical and perfumery heritage into a physical presence at the center of the global fragrance industry.

Granado’s relationship with France began before the boutique itself. In 2013, the Brazilian company was invited to present its products at the prestigious Parisian department store Le Bon Marché during an event dedicated to Brazil. The commercial response helped initiate a broader internationalization strategy.

Four years later, in 2017, Granado opened its first international concept store on Rue Bonaparte.

Paris therefore represents much more than another foreign retail market.

It is the city where Granado’s transition from a historic Brazilian beauty company into an international perfumery brand physically began.

Rio de Janeiro heritage → Paris introduction → first international boutique → European expansion → global perfumery presence.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

🇫🇷 GRANADO IN SAINT-GERMAIN-DES-PRÉS

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Granado’s historic Paris boutique is located at:

21 Rue Bonaparte
75006 Paris
France

The store is situated in Saint-Germain-des-Prés, one of Paris’s most internationally recognized districts for culture, design, luxury retail and independent perfumery.

Granado opened this location in 2017 as its first concept store outside Brazil.

The choice of Paris was strategically significant.

France occupies a central position within the global fragrance and beauty industries. Establishing a Brazilian perfumery in this environment placed Granado alongside a sophisticated ecosystem of historic maisons, niche fragrance houses, luxury retailers and international consumers.

The operation subsequently expanded beyond Saint-Germain.

Granado currently identifies three Paris boutiques:

21 Rue Bonaparte — Saint-Germain-des-Prés
4 Rue du Marché Saint-Honoré
11 Rue des Francs Bourgeois — Le Marais

This progression demonstrates the evolution from an experimental international presence into a multi-location physical operation within Paris.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

🇧🇷 A BRAZILIAN HOUSE FOUNDED IN 1870

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Granado’s history began on January 6, 1870, when Portuguese-born José Antonio Coxito Granado founded Pharmácia Granado in downtown Rio de Janeiro.

The original pharmacy operated at Rua Direita 14/16, today known as Rua Primeiro de Março.

Remarkably, Granado continues to operate at that historic address.

Its early products incorporated botanical extracts derived from plants, herbs and flowers, including materials cultivated at the founder’s property in Teresópolis, in the mountainous region of Rio de Janeiro.

This pharmaceutical origin established a relationship between:

botanical knowledge → formulation → personal care → Brazilian ingredients → brand heritage.

Rather than abandoning this history during modernization, Granado progressively transformed it into one of its principal institutional assets.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

👑 PHARMACY OF THE BRAZILIAN IMPERIAL FAMILY

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Granado’s history also intersects with Brazil’s Imperial period.

The quality and reputation of its preparations led the pharmacy to supply the Imperial Court.

In 1880, Emperor Dom Pedro II granted Granado the title of Official Pharmacy of the Brazilian Imperial Family.

This historical relationship is more than decorative storytelling.

For a company competing internationally in beauty and perfumery, institutional longevity provides provenance — something particularly valuable within markets where heritage brands carry significant cultural and commercial authority.

Granado can therefore communicate a history extending across:

Imperial Brazil → industrialization → modern cosmetics → contemporary perfumery → international luxury retail.

Few Brazilian consumer brands operating internationally possess an institutional timeline of comparable depth.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

🌿 BOTANICAL KNOWLEDGE & BRAZILIAN BIODIVERSITY

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Plants and botanical ingredients have been part of Granado’s identity since the company’s origins.

José Antonio Coxito Granado worked with hundreds of species of medicinal plants cultivated on his property in Teresópolis, using this botanical knowledge in preparations developed for Brazilian consumers.

That historical foundation continues to influence the company’s contemporary positioning.

Granado connects traditional knowledge about plants and essential oils with modern product development across personal care, skincare and fragrance.

Internationally, this creates an important differentiation.

Brazil is not presented simply as the geographic origin of the company.

Its biodiversity, botanical traditions and cultural references become part of the intellectual and sensory architecture of the brand.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

🌸 BRAZILIAN PERFUMERY

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Perfumery has become particularly important to Granado’s international business.

The company’s current international strategy identifies fragrances as accounting for more than half of sales outside Brazil, reflecting the increasingly premium positioning of the brand in foreign markets.

This is a significant transformation.

Granado began as a nineteenth-century pharmacy.

Its international identity is increasingly associated with Brazilian niche perfumery.

The evolution can be understood as:

pharmacy → personal care → cosmetics → fragrance → international perfumery house.

Its fragrance universe draws on Brazilian places, nature, cultural references and historical narratives, translating elements of Brazil into products designed for an international audience.

For the dMix ecosystem, this makes Granado especially important because it represents not only Brazilian products abroad, but the emergence of Brazilian olfactory identity within the global fragrance market.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

🧴 BEAUTY, FRAGRANCE & PERSONAL CARE

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Granado’s portfolio extends across multiple beauty and personal-care categories.

Its product universe includes:

  • Eau de Parfum & Fragrances
  • Colognes
  • Soaps
  • Body Care
  • Hand Care
  • Foot Care
  • Skincare
  • Bath Products
  • Home Fragrances
  • Candles
  • Gift Collections
  • Traditional Apothecary Products

This breadth allows the company to maintain connections with its pharmacy heritage while simultaneously developing a more sophisticated international fragrance and lifestyle proposition.

The architecture is particularly effective because Granado does not need to invent an artificial luxury history.

Its contemporary premium positioning is constructed from a genuine institutional archive extending back more than 150 years.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

🏛️ HERITAGE AS BRAND ARCHITECTURE

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Granado’s historical archive became central to the company’s modernization.

When its concept-store strategy was developed, original furniture, pharmacy instruments, historic advertising, packaging and other archival materials were incorporated into the retail environment.

The first modern concept store opened in 2005 at the company’s original Rio de Janeiro address, creating a retail language inspired by nineteenth-century pharmacies.

This model subsequently became part of Granado’s international identity.

The strategy demonstrates an important branding principle:

heritage becomes commercially powerful when it is transformed into a coherent contemporary experience.

Granado’s packaging, typography, stores, product narratives and visual system work together to make institutional history visible rather than merely describing it.

That is one of the reasons the brand can operate credibly within markets such as Paris and London without abandoning its Brazilian identity.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

🇪🇺 PARIS AS THE GATEWAY TO INTERNATIONALIZATION

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Granado’s international expansion formally began in Paris in 2013 through Le Bon Marché.

The initial presence allowed the company to test its products in a sophisticated international retail environment before committing to its own physical stores.

The first concept store followed in 2017.

From there, Granado expanded into other European markets and eventually the United States.

Paris therefore functions as the institutional gateway to Granado’s global expansion.

This makes it the strongest international location for the primary dMix listing.

New York is commercially important.

London is important.

Lisbon carries historical and linguistic connections.

But Paris explains how Granado became international.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

🇬🇧 LONDON, 🇵🇹 LISBON & 🇺🇸 NEW YORK

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Granado’s physical international network continued expanding after Paris.

The company currently confirms:

France — 3 Paris boutiques

United Kingdom — 3 London boutiques

Portugal — 1 Lisbon boutique

United States — 2 New York boutiques

Its international distribution also extends through selected department stores and retail partners in other European markets.

New York became particularly important in 2024, when Granado opened a concept store on Madison Avenue, extending its physical international expansion into the United States.

The resulting architecture is substantially stronger than conventional product export:

owned boutiques + international e-commerce + premium department stores + selected retail partners + pop-ups + brand experiences.

This allows Granado to control not only where products are sold, but how Brazilian perfumery is presented internationally.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

🤝 GRANADO & PUIG

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

A significant institutional milestone occurred in 2016, when Granado announced the sale of a minority stake to Spanish beauty and fashion group Puig.

Granado itself identifies this transaction as part of the company’s internationalization process.

The relationship provided an important connection with an established global organization in beauty and perfumery while preserving Granado’s distinct Brazilian identity.

For the company, this represented more than capital.

It created proximity to international expertise within the very industry Granado intended to penetrate more deeply.

The sequence is strategically important:

Brazilian heritage company → modernization → international market testing → strategic international investment → owned boutiques abroad.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

♻️ RESPONSIBILITY & PRODUCT EVOLUTION

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Granado has also integrated environmental considerations into the evolution of its product portfolio and manufacturing practices.

The company highlights historical initiatives including the early adoption of vegetable-based ingredients in soap production and the removal of parabens from its products.

Its institutional positioning connects product development with environmental preservation, Brazilian biodiversity and responsible business practices.

This dimension becomes increasingly relevant internationally.

For heritage companies, longevity alone is insufficient.

Institutional authority also depends on the ability to reinterpret historic capabilities within contemporary expectations regarding materials, formulation, environmental impact and corporate responsibility.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

🌎 BRAZILIAN PERFUMERY ON THE GLOBAL STAGE

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Granado’s international strategy has moved beyond simply opening stores.

In 2026, the company described its objective as building relevance for Brazilian perfumery within major global fragrance markets through experiences, partnerships and international initiatives.

This distinction is strategically important.

The objective is not merely:

sell Brazilian cosmetics abroad.

The larger institutional ambition is:

establish Brazilian perfumery as a recognizable category within the global beauty ecosystem.

That moves Granado from product internationalization toward cultural and category-building.

For dMix, this is one of the strongest narratives we have encountered because the company is helping construct international semantic authority not only for itself, but potentially for Brazilian perfumery as an identifiable global proposition.
